Concept and Origins
CONCEPT
The brand name Hundic is derived from the German word “Hund-” meaning ‘Hound, Dog’ and the Latin adjective-forming suffix “-ic”, forming the meaning ‘doggish’, ‘dog-like’ or ‘of dog’.
But why “doggish”?
The brand name is strongly related to the concept that inspired it and how it was formed by the ethno-cultural background of the founder himself, as the idea behind it comes from a popular traditional Persian spirit distilled from fermented raisins called “Arrack Sagi” (‘dog spirit’), just like how English-Speakers say “dog weather” (or Germans say “Hundewetter”) to express that the weather’s harsh, the term is colloquially used to refer to the harsh alcoholic content (~40 – 50% vol) of the original alcoholic beverage which feels brutal to drink. Arrack Sagi is also commonly known as “the Iranian Vodka” by Persians living in the west.

SOMETHING FROM THE FOUNDER
My interest in sweetened alcoholic beverages blossomed after moving out to Austria (duh) and specially after working and gaining experience in areas related to the industry.
What brought the idea?
A long time ago in my last teenage year, during the first COVID-19 lockdown, my cousin and I got ourselves a bottle of Arrack Sagi since we had nowhere else to go. Although a teenager, I thought I wouldn’t take more than a shot or two, I was wrong.
That bottle was special in that it was poorly distilled, so it wasn’t 100% clear and still had a tinge of the natural raisins’ color and a hint of taste and aroma of the raisins from which it was distilled. And that made me wish that all Arrack Sagies were made to taste just like that.

GOALS
Being a bartender today, I made it my goal to give a new start to our Arrack Sagi by inventing a special liqueur recipe based on raisins, so I can share a piece of my culture with the rest of the world and bring a unique, novel taste — that I happened to stumble upon — to the local market.
Developing the perfect recipe took a year of gradual yet constant improvement, experimenting and testing by offering free shots and samples to friends, colleagues and costumers at my local bar in Vienna, what did I get in return? I received honest and valuable feedback from different people from various nationalities, each with a different personal taste, and that… that has a value 🙂
What initially started as a personal exploration of flavour and tradition became a liqueur built on patience, balance, and originality. The focus is not volume, but character, crafted in Austria and bottled with care.
